During our morning opener I presented the children with a variety of colored feathers. WE sorted and explored them for a while and then decided to make some patterns. We started with a simple AB and then moved to an ABB (pictured below) and then went to an ABC. I should have done an AABB because adding a third color really confused and frustrated most of them. We tried it again the next day and this time they all could figure it out. (They had all worked on int at home too). By the end of the week they were figuring out how to make their own patterns of complex numbers and colors and also making a pattern just by me saying the letters, like make a AABAA and they could do it. It was so fun.
I stuck magnets to the back of the feathers and added a turkey to our white board to encourage making patterns with the feathers. They were not at all interested in making patterns, but they did love decorating him the way THEY wanted him to look. And he always looked beautiful.
Funny, I envisioned putting them on the white board, not ON him, this is better.
They also worked together a lot and discussed plans for what they were going to do.
For example, he really needed a hat.
