Making Giant Candy Canes

I am still unsure about how I feel about this activity and if I would do it again.  It involved so many great skills, but the kids didn't love it and  they didn't turn out the way I had wanted.  I might try to come up with a better variation next year.

Step one they drew their own candy cane shape.

Then they pealed off their own tape and added stripes to their candy canes.

Then we painted  over the top of the whole thing.

Then we peeled the tape off.  The tape ripped most of the paper off - and it was really really hard and really really messy - you have to do it before the paint dries or it won't come off.
It was a long, messy process that the kids never really caught the vision of what they were doing, they just followed the steps that I told them to do with out really understanding what we were doing what we were doing.  And in the end they weren't every enthusiastic with their results.  They did love pealing the tape and painting.  I think next year I will come up with another candy cane idea that involves those things, but with better execution.
