We had been talking about shapes for a couple of days. One day I gave the kids some triangles and some circles. I wanted to graph how many we had - but the board I gave them was too small - so we sorted instead. After the shapes were sorted my plan was to ask the kids what we could make with our shapes. But before I even got there one of the kids said, "lets make a turkey with our shapes!" Sold! First, in our large circle, we laid our pieces in front of us making a turkey, I wanted them to play around with the shapes, and talk about how turkeys look, and see how certain shapes could help accomplish that goal, before they had the pressure of paper and glue.
Once we got to the table the placement and gluing began.
I absolutely adored our turkeys. They look like... turkeys, a little off, but so perfect.
