I set up what I thought was this really cool spider web magnetic activity. I turned a coffee table upside down, laced yarn all around like a spider web. Then I made spiders out of pipe cleaner
(their magnetic you know) and had magnetic wands. You could control the spiders with the wands and have them crawl all over the spider web. At the last minute I added a mirror underneath because I thought it creates another level of play. Cool right?
Wrong. The children were not the least interested. After about 20 minutes of not one child stopping by this center, I decided to try and create interest by exploring it myself. Some children stopped and watched me, but never joined in, I asked several to try it out with me, they did for a second, but quickly left. I wasn't deterred. I left it up for 3 days, hoping that one day, one child would be interested. No one ever was. Sometimes the activities that I think will be great aren't, and the ones that I think are "lame" the kids love and learn a lot.
