As usual I rarely have pictures of our large group processes. I am pretty out numbered and out large group usually consists of cutting, painting, writing, gluing, etc and I am kind of "all hands on deck". I did have a second to grab one photo of our Spiders.
Making spiders out of number 8s is great. They have the same body of a spider and it gave us a chance to learn about the number 8. We counted, we identified, and we drew number 8's earlier in the day. Then when we made our spider I had the kids cut them out (cutting curved lines is still pretty difficult at this age) - I had previously cut out the centers. Then I had them count out 8 legs - I could have had them cut them, but I chose not too... because... I wanted them to focus all their energy on bending the legs back and forth. This is REALLY hard for their little fingers to do, and they get tired quick. But they all persevered and got all 8 of their little spider legs bent. Then we glued them and added as many eyes as we wanted. I am so bummed I didn't get any pictures of the end product. I think parents were knocking on the door while we were still gluing.
