Restaurant

After 2 weeks of dramatic play set up like a house (kitchen, table, baby stuff) I decided it was time for a change.  Many of my kids loved the house set up and spent most of their time there - so I didn't want to change it too much too soon (they are still just getting used to school).  So I decided a restaurant would be the perfect thing.

I created menus with all of my play food.  I decided to add an amount of money since all menus have that - but I wanted to keep it simple so all my prices were just 1, 2, or 3 dollars.  Most of them knew those numbers and this would help teach or reinforce this knowledge.

I wanted them to know it was a restaurant with out me have to give any explanation - so I decided on the first day I would have it all set up like this.  Then on our second day I didn't set it all out - it was just all in tray s and baskets ready for the kids to set up how they wanted it.

There was so much going on in this center it was wonderful.  Writing, counting, cooperation, following directions, role playing, turn taking, I loved just sitting back and watching the kids.  I have had many reluctant writers in this class - but they just picked up those clipboards and started writing down orders.  It was exactly what I wanted.

Hope to get enough money saved up to buy a nice cash register - the hardships of your first year of preschool... right?
