Some rainbow puzzles at the math center. - truth be told none of these really got played with. I need to figure out a better delivery system or placement for next year. I know that they can be very inviting and have seen them be well loved in other classrooms - I will just have to figure out what went wrong next year.
For our first day our color/shapes table looked like this. It also did not get much play. I thought it looked very inviting and begged for some explration, but apparently my kids didn't.
I didn't want to give up though, so the next day I added some bigger blocks, and separated the shapes into their own containers. This solved the problem because this was a very high traffic center the next day.
Love their creativity - they even used the containers to help!
Sticky rainbow easel. we still had some strips of paper left over from our cutting sensory table. So I stuck them in jars and put some clear sticky contact paper with the sticky side facing out ever our easel. I am sad I didn't get any picture of the kids paying with it. Some kids liked to stick a few pieces on as they walked by going to other centers, others sat and played rearranging all the lines into patterns, others loved to take the paper off and sort it back into their correct jars.
After preschool was over and it was time to clean up I saw our end product and remembered to grab a picture.
Our dry erase board for the week: a giant rainbow made from colored scotch tape and colored pom -poms that I stuck magnets behind.
There was a lot of cooperation going on here. Most kids wanted to work on it by them selves, the problem was they all wanted to work on it. I decided not to get involved and let them work it out. It turned out great. One child took the roll of leader and assigned out jobs. If a child was unhappy with their job the leader gave that child a new job. It was so fun to watch. Eventually they got the whole rainbow filled up. Later in the day a child decided to make more of a crazy rainbow and rearrange all the colors - this obviously stressed many of the children out - especially the ones who like "order" - like my Megan.
