Marble Game

I was nervous about getting this out so early in the school year.  My kids had always loved it, but always needed a lot of help to get it to work right.  But I knew that one of my students particularly would love it so I put it out on one of our "blocks" shelves.  I had intended on having out for only a day  - but ended up leaving it there for 3!  The kids did amazingly well.  The were very engaged in the whole process of building it and playing with it.  There was a lot of parallel play - but also a lot of great cooperative play - with some amazing conversations going on with a lot of negotiating and problem solving.  I wish I had a video camera to record it.

I built one to show as an example and then had the other pieces sorted out so they could build their own.  It was a great set up - the one built caught their eye and increased their curiosity.
