At the beginning of the year I had to give lots of instruction or advice at center as to what to do with the materials. Creativity can sometimes be hard - especially in a world where everything usually has a specific function - children don't what to do things wrong. In preschool I want them to feel safe to explore, get ideas, create, even fail, or to try again, and again, and again. When it comes to my center that are more open to exploration I always have a goal in mind: obviously I wanted them to make flowers. But I never said that - they could have made what ever they wanted.
